Perfect day

Today it's been 24 years since I was born and about 20 years since I first watched this children's movie: "The tale of Peter rabbit and Benjamin bunny" by Beatrix Potter. When I was a child I could replay this ending for hours, I never seemed to grew tired of the pictures or the music. I was so fascinated by the stunning landscape, Beatrix (and the children's) clothes, the blue english teacups, the little rabbit sitting on her desk when she tells her stories.

This movie became a huge inspiration for me and has been ever since. My love for vintage and the early 1900's, the importance of living close to the nature. My tea cup collection and and my creative side were surely inspired by it too. When I was about six years old I got my first little bunny and looking back, it's not hard to figure out where that birthday wish came from?

If you haven't seen the film about Beatrix Potter's life with René Zellweger and Even McGregor in the front roles, watch Miss Potter. She was one of the most inspiring and independent women of her time.

A very unfortunate day

Yesterday was the biggest joke of my life.
I just need to tell the whole story because I haven't really understood what actually happened yet.

So as you know I had found this perfect apartment announcement in the 9th on a website called appartager.fr (where I'd spent at least 20 hours trying to find a nice place to live) and during one week I'd been in contact with a girl called "Pascale. Everything seemed normal and since I was the first person to contact her, I really thought I was going to get it. I therefor stopped looking for other offers and started counting down days until friday when I was supposed to visit the flat. I couldn't think of anything else and dreamt several nightmares about screwing it all up.

So when friday came, I spent two hours in the bathroom preparing myself, wrote down questions on a piece of paper and said prayers just to be sure.

Francois and I arrived slightly after 5 o'clock and since I didn't know which floor it was and "Pascale" didn't answer the phone, I stopped and asked a girl in the staircase if she might knew where we should go. She indicated the second floor to the right.

A girl opened the door, we noticed directly that she was extremely nervous. She told us to take off our shoes and put on some slippers instead. The apartment was amazing, beautiful wooden floors, a huge kitchen and "my" room had flowery wallpaper and a large window. The girl showed us the way to the salon where she first asked us to clean our hands with a disinfection gel before letting us sit down on the sofa. Two seconds later she leant over the sofa table starting cleaning it with a towel, going over to the sofa to reset the pillows in order, and asked me when I last was ill.

She said she had a real problem with bacteria, and had to know if I was a clean person. I answered that I took showers like a normal person and started telling her about myself instead, my job and where I came from when she interrupted me to say that she was feeling bad because of a scent of dust in the room. Francois excused himself and said that it might me the smell of smoke, and she had us switch places.

she asked us if we wanted something to drink and she went (without listening to our answer) to the kitchen to fetch us a bottle of water (new but without ticket) being very clear about not leaving it on the table in front of us. And also telling me that my handbag could not touch the sofa and that I had to hold on to it on my knees.

I felt so uncomfortable being there but in the same time I knew that I had to get this apartment if I didn't want to end up on the street. Obviously I would have had to avoid all the common spaces but I was still considering to live only in my room. She told me that she would take care of the cleaning during mornings and afternoons and I'd get to do it in the evenings. I tried to calm her down a bit and said that I also liked order, and Francois said "Oui Emma est très attentionée" and she answered "Oh really? good, good.
She said that Pascale had left the apartment in a terrible mess and that she couldn't stand disorder. (Pascale was the last room mate)

During at least 45 min she had me answer all these crazy questions and in the end she lay the contract on the table and said "I like you, you can move in. will you?" You'll have to disinfect all your things before moving in but that's OK, isn't it?
I said I needed to think about it, and but that it was more a yes than a no.
Than she turned all stressful again and said that she needed an answer straight away and that she had an other person coming to visit in any second.

All these things went around in my head, The apartment was so cheap and the room was beautiful and I couldn't possible find a better location. I've told all my friends about the place, how happy I was moving back to that area. How I would buy flowers at the florist across the street and finally being able to settle down. But how could I possible live with someone like her?

"So are you signing or not?" she said again.

And I finished by saying "No i'm sorry...I needed more time to think"

"OK.. I will ask you to leave now, Quickly please."

Francois and I went back to where we'd parked our shoes and took off the slippers, then the girl from the staircase came in to the salon and the crazy girl said "surprise, it's a hidden camera, you will be on TV"

"Haha great, just what I needed!" imbeciles.

I felt so betrayed, and astonished that I burst into tears. Knowing that they were just playing around with me when I had two days to find a place to stay, knowing that I'd been wasting my time to be a part of a silly joke made me feel sick.

So voilà this is what happened... what are the odds.
This morning I laughed a bit about it, still need to find a home though.

I'm trying not to fall into depression and going to use this time enjoying Paris, talking alot of pictures and start saving up for a new mac. (So see you in two years... hehe)
De toute facon je savais que j'étais plus thé que café...

Sigur Ros and album covers

Good evening pearls,

I'm sorry for my recent lack of inspiration when It comes to English writing here on the blog, I promise I'll make an effort so that you all can understand what I'm saying. One day Swedish will be a global language but until then... haha.

Today I've been working on the "Emma-Klara and the flowershop" project, all from the music to my futur album covers! (I know we're not there yet, but one can dream, right?)
It seems as though people think that I should be on the cover but I'm not quite as sure.
I love painted covers, dreamy photographs and beautiful colors. For me the album cover is like work of art. Sometimes I buy records just because of the design and even though I might get disappointed when listening to the music I still have got the pleasure to look at the album cover!
Hopefully people will like both my music and my visual design. My cover inspiration is of course the magnificent Icelandic band Sigur Ros. (see pictures above)

If you have any ideas or comments about my album cover, please leave a word! That would mean a lot to me.

Also saying a big thanks to my dear friend Malin for her help with the band logotype!

Bisous!

Soleil de la butte

Coucou,

I'm posting this blog post after a long day out in the spring sun. I feel like I have to update this little flowershop more often, but the winter has been long, dark and cold I don't seem to be able to do what so ever in these conditions. I still hope though, that inspiration will come back with les beaux jours.

I'm very happy to know that people are following this blog, my life and my projects. To update you a bit on the subject I will do my next internship at Paperdolls - the beautiful shop I blogged about a couple of months ago. I'm preparing for some interesting and challenging weeks in Paris in april. (and loads of coffee and croissants)
My music project is slowly progressing and I'm preparing a EP for this autumn together with my band The Flowershop. Francois and Lionel came visiting me in Sweden last week and part from having just a splendid time together we took the time to work on some really nice songs!

An other project that also is starting to take form is Le son du metro. An album featuring 12 buskers from Paris (including myself) that will have it's release this spring. If you find that interesting take a look at the website and listen to the featured artists music.

But, even though the thought of the future can carry me away sometimes I really try to enjoy every second of every day. I hope you do too!

Carpe Diem,
Emma-Klara

A way of Grace

THERE ARE TWO WAYS IN LIFE: THE WAY OF NATURE AND THE WAY OF GRACE - from the film The Tree Of Life.

I have been thinking a lot about these words lately. What did Terrence Malick think when he wrote them down? What did they mean to him? And more important what do they mean to myself?
I didn't really know until I looked through a file of pictures from last year's family trip to Asia.

It was my first time in Thailand. I had recently bought my first camera and I was looking forward to photograph the ocean, the beaches. I wanted to take family portraits, and maybe even catch one or to wild animals with my new bought canon.

On our way to the hotel in Khao Lak the arriving day we drove pass a huge army boat lying in the grass on the right side of the road. The strange thing was that we were far away from water, so it seemed as if it had been dropped from the sky.
This was the first real proof and evidence, I was about to see, from the tsunami disaster the 26th of december 2004.
-A terrifying way of nature.

Even though the cities, and almost all the hotels and beaches had been restored we were often reminded of the catastrophe when we walked around and talked to thai people. They never brought up the subject themselves of course but just by looking into their eyes it felt as if they were telling me their whole story over and over again.
But despite all this sorrow nature had brought upon them, they still seemed to have a graceful eagerness to continue their lives. Honoring those who passed away that Christmas day seven years ago, by living even more. Wanting more for themselves and for there families.

The children that I met made the biggest impression on me. Many of them had all ready start working, some of them were very young. "And I thought to myself that maybe nature took away their childhood and their right to be only children with imagination and without responsibility. When I worked with these pictures I tried to imagine what they'd might be dreaming about. Things every child dream about.
Riding elephants, having a pet, a flower garden, fishing on the sea."

I try to remember their faces when I'm struggling in my own life. Sometimes our lives don't turn out they way we've planned or maybe something happens that changes our entire way of living it.
Life is not always easy but first when I accept my situation I can also start doing something about it. Only I can decide when I'm ready to leave the past behind and start taking paths forward. This doesn't mean you have to forget, but maybe learn to live with it. The past might even make you stronger.

I didn't take as much photos of my family as I had wanted, nor of the beach or from our hotel - even though we had the most wonderful vacation.
I took photographs of inspiring people struck by nature and touched by grace.

Shine your Light over your life

Photo: Sofie Johansson

Today I had a lovely day together with my dear childhood friend Amanda. It really felt like the good old days when we started singing gospel-jazz in different harmonies and played loudly on my piano.
Playing music really makes me forget time and space. I just love to close my eyes and let the tunes stream out of my mouth, like nothing else mattered, existed.

Amanda shared some new songs she'd written with me. Music in different styles, clever and gorgeous lyrics, but above all - melodies that really blew me away. amazing.
She's about to buy recording equipment, to eventually create a myspace, or such. I'll keep you updated on that.

When talking about music I'd also like to high light Bon Iver's records -  Bon Iver and For Emma, forever ago. Not just because my name is Emma of course, (even though I have to admit that I sometimes wish it all was written for me)
If you haven't yet listened to it, hurry hurry up. you won't regret it.
            A link directly to love

Ever since I came home from Tjörn two weeks ago, I have practically been sitting by the piano all my waking hours. As I mentioned before I loose track of time. I guess I'm afraid that I'll loose it if I don't keep it up.
Anyway I finished a new song this week. It's about faith, How important it is to trust in yourself and you own talent. You shouldn't compare what you do with others if it brings you down. You are unique, and you should be proud of that.
Shine your light.

The grass isn't greener on the other side
That's an illusion
Your neighbour isn't better than you
That's you own imagination
If you have a hope
Keep on trusting
If you have a dream
Set it free

Shine you light over your life

A man is an island
That's the expression
Your boots were made for walking
You are your own inspiration
You are stronger than you think
So don't give up the fight
Your the captain of your ship so
Stir it up

Shine your light over your life.

Tankar

I feel that I have so much to learn about blogging but in the same time I feel more inspired than ever. I want to learn everything, about photography, about writing, about visuel art, and waiting has never been my strong force. haha.

Anyways, yesterday me and my girls had a great night out. It started of at the restaurant "Joe Farrels" on the avenue in Gothenburg and after that we went to Linné for some hang out. I'm so greatful for spending this much time with them before I leave.

Today I've been spendning the day thinking about Paris and my dear little Anton. The cute little monsier on the picture.
During one and a half year we played and spent time together every tuesday and thursday and I really miss him. He was like a little brother to me, sometimes when we were playing in the parc people even thought I was his mother. Bref back to today. I took my bicycle and I went for a long bike ride. I ended up by a lake where I just sat under a large tree thinking about people I miss and all my Swedish friends whom I'm so happy to see again. It was a very peaceful moment. and I watched the sun go down in the water before I rode back home.

When I got home my father had found like 3 kilos of yellow chanterelles in the forest when he was out walking with Sally, so we had the most delicious muchroom sandwiches for diner. And I also applied to my first photo competition for Divas and Dreams - a great Danish Photographer and a person I really admire. Take a look at her work.

Last but not least I also want to send some thoughts to Africa. I wish I could have done more, but I've donated some money. If you want to help families get through this hard time please do donate at  läkare utan gränser

God bless,
Ek
